Installation

Installation of water-cooling setups has been one of the major obstacle for many users towards the migration to water cooling, especially since the frequency of my upgrades has made the task of tearing down, rebuilding, leak testing, etc. can turn into a major exercise with many traditional water-cooling setups. I have not been a fan of ½” tubing, hose over barb interference fit tubing, or high flow setups despite the fact that they work well for many users. I can only say, that this is something that I don’t appreciate having to work with. I have used them in the past, and chosen to keep them there...

When working with the Alphacool setup, I was amazed at the relative ease with installing and testing the parts provided. Everything fit, which is not something to take lightly! Sure, the expectation is that when we buy kits such as these, they are actually able to be put together without modification. However, I have assembled my fair share of computer components, not limited to cooling apparatus, to know that life is rarely so compliant.

This kit however, almost assembled itself. I have never worked with push-in-lock tubing/fittings and I have been permanently spoiled. The chances for leaks are vastly decreased with this interface, and the ease of assembly is infinitely improved. I do give the reader the tip to make sure when cutting your tubing to the lengths required for your application, to give attention to your cuts so that they are crisp, clean, and with non angled edges. In other words, don’t make sloppy cuts, and keep the cut at a 90 degree angle to the length of tubing. Off angles could produce problems with tubing seating and/or promote situations where leaks could potentially occur. This is covered in the instruction manual and, that said, I experienced no issues and had the complete kit installed and leak tested within an hour or so from opening the box. Alphacool provided a water based solution that includes some corrosion and algae inhibitor, and I have to say that in the 1-2 months I have been running this setup, I have experienced no discolorations of my lines and no leaks have occurred.
