 AMD Athlon64 FX53
(Review by MS, July 1, 2004)
AMD Athlon64 3000+ At:

Gaming Performance II

Most games heavily depend on system memory, that is, bandwidth and latency but there are exceptions like, for example Comanche4, which gets a major boost from a large CPU cache. The Pentium4 Extreme Edition is the best indicator for the impact of the cache size but the Prescott shows that the pipeline stages and the cache latencies also have a major impact on the outcome of the benchmark.

Comanche4

Comanche4 is the one benchmark that most clearly showed the impact of the reduced L2 cache size

UnrealTournament 2003

In the UT2003 Botmatch the 3800+ makes up for what it lost in Comanche4

AMD Athlon64 3800+ At:

X2 The Threat (Rolling Demo)

X2 at the default setting is a tie between the top end processors. Keep in mind that the RADEON 9800 Pro is a limiting factor here as well, with our modded ASUS AX800 Pro, we got scores in the 150 fps range.

MDK2

In MDK2, the FX53 beats the 3800+ by a hare's ass...

Time to wrap this one up.
