Gaming Performance
Gaming is what drives the industry more than anything else and there are the latest and greatest games out there that bog down even the most advanced graphics adapters. Which is reason enough to avoid those benchmarks for evaluating system or CPU performance. Still a good standard measure for the overall capabilities is the somewhat seasoned 3DMark2001SE which is not as much limited by the GPU as any of the more modern versions and even runs on some older graphics cards like ATI's RADEON 9800 Pro. (we'll switch over to a different reference card shortly)
3DMark2001SE
Even though the AMD Athlon64 3800+ is taking a solid lead here, the results shown are selling the overall performance a bit short. With the X800 series, the lead increases substantially and yields scores in the 25,000 points range. Nonetheless, the results are speaking for themselves.
Aquamark3 FPS
Aquamark3 shows another win for the 3800+, at least when it comes to raw frames per second

In the CPU benchmark, the 3800+ still has to yield to the Intel competition.
