Futuremarks
Startig with 3Dmark'99, the company that evolved mostly out of Remedy and Europan VNU Labs and which is currently going under the trade name "Futuremark" had their 15 months of fame with 3DMark2001 and the second edition thereof, followed by a sequence of controversial benchmarks. Optimizations and cheats marked the way of 3DMark2003, which, to be honest, sheds some light on the capabilities of GPUs but that's also where its usefulness ends. 3DMark05 was long anticipated and it does offer one thing, that is, spectacular graphics. For system or CPU benchmarking, 3DMark05 contains a separate software redering suite that supposedly only stresses the CPU. So far so good, let's look at the trusted 3DMark2001SE first and then move on to the new kid on the block. The benchmarks denoted as FX55* were achieved using a Socket 940 FX53 overclocked to run with a 13x multiplier. Keep in mind that this is not an official FX55 processor.

The Athlon64 rules here. Score at 2640 MHz: 29407
3DMark05 CPU Test

The P4 3.4XE running on the 925 platform literally destroys the competition
3DMark05 CPU Test1

The score becomes more clear when looking at the individual subtests, the i925 platform is over 50% faster than the 875 with supposedly the same CPU and the Athlons somewhere in between.

3DMark05 CPU Test2

The second CPU test sees the 925 platform head to head with the (hypothetical) FX55* and the 4000 does actually fall behind the 3800
