| A 5 Second Mod for multiplier unlocking | |
| (Review by MS, Feb 11, 2003) |
It turned out a bit tricky to get the connection on picture, after all, the compound is not too photogenic.

I guess there is not much of any explanation necessary.

Just for the record, running the slowest Barton in the world

The other end of the spectrum, we were able to run up to 215 MHz FSB, above that, we had to increase the VDDR to 2.7V with two Mushkin PC3200 256MB DIMMs
Conclusion
As we have shown above, the "pin-trick" works, at least to the point where we can access all lower multipliers of the Barton. With the XP2800+ (TBred), the situation was different in that the mod opened up all multiplier settings from 13X to 22.5x but that is not the point of this article. What we wanted to show is a mainboard mod that can be fully and easily reversed and takes about 5 minutes to do at a total cost of one bent pin (discounting the repair compound). Granted that there are some new "hacked" BIOS versions for some boards that will allow full overriding of the multiplier settings, the majority of boards does not feature such options and especially for those boards is it where the mod described here is of value since it should work on any socket A mainboard.
