 AMD Athlon XP2800+
The Truce of the AntiMatter
(Review by MS, October 1, 2002)
Comanche4

Comanche4 is a strange beast, nobody appears to really understand the rules according to which the frame rates are popping out but it does appear as if they are closely related to AMD's QuantiSpeed rating scheme. We ran the benhmark at the default setting of 800 x 600.

Older AMD processors never got a foot on the ground in Comanche4, now the XP2800+ achieves the same score as the P4 2.8GHz. Once again, note the performance hit taken by increasing the memory speed to DDR400 even though the latencies remained identical. In other words, it is all in the fifos and the KT400 takes last place.

3DMark2001 SE

3DMark2001(SE) has always been a very strong application for the AMD Athlon family and with the increase in FSB, the XP2800+ leaves little doubt who is dominating regardless of whether the model number is QuantiSpeed or real MHz. With the KT400 platform, the difference is still not as pronounced but the nForce2 chipset bars no holds and literally destroys the P4 at the same clock speed. Only overclocking the P4 saves the crown for now.
