| Intel's Core 2 Quad Extreme Edition QX6850 and Core2 E6750 Host bus: 1333 MHz | |
|
(Review by MS, July 15, 2007) |
Power Consumption
As we mentioned, the E6750 can only switch back and forth between an 8x and a 6x multiplier, the QX6850 has the extra 9x multiplier but overall, the throttling range is relatively limited to 25% and 30%, respectively.
Windows XP Idle Power Consumption
Power consumption at the Windows desktop, max power saving enabled. Lower is better
Power Consumption Under Full Load
Power consumption under full load, 4 instances of Prime95 running max load. Lower is better
We repeated the measurements about 1/2 dozen times and they came out the same way no matter what we did. Regardless of the higher idle frequency, the idle numbers still appear a bit on the high side, we have no good explanation for this other than that there is a possibility of a VRM with poor efficiency under light loading conditions that is used on the P5K3. Interestingly, however, the power consumption under load is exactly where it is expected, that is the C2D6700 and the E6750 are side by side and the QX 6850 is just a tad above the QX6700- right where it is expected.
