 Intel's Core 2 Quad Extreme Edition QX6850 and Core2 E6750
Host bus: 1333 MHz
(Review by MS, July 15, 2007)

Memory Performance

A faster controller, a faster memory architecture and by the end of the day, what does that really amount to?

SiSoft Sandra (buffering enabled)

Compared to the older versions with 1066 MHz bus interface and running on the i975 chipset, the P35 with DDR3 brings a pronounced performance boost to the table.

Latencies

We used Cachemem 2.65 to look at the latencies. There are other latency tools that give a quick overview of "latency" but the metrics are somewhat obscure, likewise, ScienceMark still seems to suffer from a timestamp issue which is why pass on the opportunity to use it.

DDR2 vs DDR3 on i975 vs P35, respectively. DDR2 latencies are shown in the transparent blocks whereas DDR3 latencies are given in the solid blocks. Lower is better. There is no question that DDR3 (with the newer chipset) brings lower latencies to the table than DDR2 despite running at nominally higher access latencies.
