 Intel P4 Extreme Edition
Cache Size Matters
(Review by MS, October 11, 2003)
More Raytracing

We already had some raytracing in the form of Cinebench and 3dsmax5, however, there are still some other programs out there that are more geared towards the "hobbyist", simply because of the price point of the software and the ease of handling. Two such programs are Caligari TrueSpace and Amorphium with the latter being one of my favorites because of the ease of handling it and - fair enough - the lowest price point of any competing programs.

Caligari TrueSpace5.1

Finally, we have an Intel CPU as the fastest single processor to render Adam Trachtenberg's "vase" scene in 4xAA mode. Runtime in seconds, lower is better. It is a very impressive show that the P4EE puts up here, to be beaten only by SMP systems.

Amorphium3

The Extreme Edition manages to edge out the Athlon XP3200+ and is way ahead of the standard P4 at the same speed grade.

Media Encoding: Flask 060 with DivX 5.01

In Flask, there appears hardly any difference compared to the standard P4 but media encoding most likely abides by the same principles as raytracing, meaning, it will make a difference in some programs, in others, it won't and we just happened to pick one program of the latter kind.
