 Intel Pentium4 600 64-bit Performance
PanoramaFactory Revisited
(Review by MS March 2, 2005)
Intel P4 630+ At:

Read involves much more than just reading a few files from memory, the latter would hardly take about 1/2 minute and, moreover, not conceivably show a difference between a 32-bit and a 64-bit configuration. In other words, it is not exactly clear what really happens at this stage. One thing, however, is somewhat curious, that is, in 32-bit mode, the AMD setup is the fastest, whereas in 64-bit mode it is the slowest of the three contenders. We'll see more of this "opposite behavior" throughout the benchmarks.

Warping describes the change in geometry from a flat world to a cylindical surround where everything is more or less equidistant. Think of it as standing in front of a flat wall or inside a hollow tube.

After determining the geometry changes, the entire picture needs to be resampled.

Decimate describes polygon reduction using a progressive mesh type algorithm which goes back to the polygon reduction code written by Stan Melax for Game Developers Magazine in 1998. Decimate appears not to be sensitive to 32-bit or 64-bit processing, rather, it groups the results according to CPU type.
