There is only so much validity to any synthetic benchmarks, for the standard user, a real life benchmark counts more than Dhrystones etc. For the past 2 years or so, the Nemesis of the P4 has been Rage's Expendable and even though as a game, Expendable is probably no longer a mainstream application, it is still valid as a benchmark for performance under conditions that require rapid bus turnaround between reads and writes.

2.4 = 2.4 GHz, 2.53 = 2.53 GHz; -100, -133: FSB; /SPD: DDR333 at SPD settings; /800 PC800 RDRAM; /1066: PC1066 RDRAM; /146: The 2.53 GHz P4 was overclocked to 146 MHz FSB / 183 MHz DRAM frequency (2775 MHz) on the ASUS P4S333. The impossible happens, the 2.4 GHz-100 MHz CPU running the memory bus at 166 MHz and 2:2:2 latencies outperforms every other system combination except for the 2.53 GHz P4 using PC1066 RDRAM. We can only speculate but what the numbers indicate is that running the 133 MHz CPU forces the chipset to add internal wait states for e.g. the data pase latency (tDPL). In other words, whatever latencies are there to assure proper functionality of the dynamic bus inversion will exacerbated by the move to 133 MHz. A simpler and more obvious explanation is that the 645 chipset used is not the 645 DX and has more problems coping with the higher bus speed but other benchmarks shown below will prove otherwise.
3DMark2001SE
3DMark2001 and 2001SE certainly do not qualify as processor benchmarks since the graphics card consitutes the greater bottleneck. Nonetheless, it is interesting to look at how the different platforms / settings influence the outcome of the benchmark. Once again, we see a clear winning combination of the 133 MHz FSB with PC1066 RDRAM which is a much more important factor than clock speed (even though the latter helps).
