 Intel's P4 820D and 670
More Power to Duallies
(Review by MS September 3, 2005)
P4-670

Gaming Performance: 3DMark'05

We are only looking at the CPU benchmark composite score where we take the numbers from the second pass along with the power measurements taken during that same run.

Despite the fact that the CPU benchmark2 is multithreaded and recommended by Intel, the 820 D does not get a leg on the ground against the strong competition in house and from the AMD camp. On the other hand, the scores are respectable enough for any system, meaning that at least on the basis of 3DMark'05, for what it is worth, the 820 qualifies as a gaming CPU. And that is really all that counts.

CPU Benchmark scores (blue) vs. power consumtion (red). Wherever the red line is below the blue line, it indicates very good conversion of power into benchmark scores, wherever it is above the blue line, the power to performance ratio is somewhat inadequate by today's economic standards

Scores per Watt. In view of the results, it is no wonder that Intel is pushing the performance per power as their new party line.
