Intel Prescott Starting at: |
Gaming still drives the PC world more than anything else and it is certainly interesting to see whether the Prescott can keep up with its older brethren.
3DMark2001SE and FinalFantasy XI
In 3DMark2001SE, the Prescott holds its position against the Northwood, even though it is marginally slower. FinalFantasy XI shows a larger performance hit for Prescott, which ends up at the bottom of the charts again.
Aquamark3
Aquamark3 shows Prescott at 3.2 GHz barely beating the Northwood 3.0 in the CPU score. When it comes to actual frame rates, the differences are not as pronounced as the CPU scores would suggest.
Comanche4 and X2 Rolling Demo
In Both X2 Rolling Demo and, especially in Comanche4, the Prescott takes a severe beating and comes in behind an Athlon XP3200+ in dual channel mode (D), even at 3.2 GHz while it beats the AhtlonXP on a single channel mode platform (S). Once again, the P4 ExtremeEdition at 3.4 GHz is unbeatable.
To summarize, Prescott and gaming is not necessarily a match made in heaven, despite all the optimizations but as long as there are no games that will take advantage of SSE3, Prescott really does not look that great.
