| (Review by MS, March 26, 2002) |
Starting out with the AMD XP 2000+ at default speed and 256 MB system memory , we achieved a solid score of 87.9 which increased to 92.7 after doubling the memory to 512 MB but it is easier to look at the scores first and marvel about our accomplishments and then look at how we did it.

xxxx-yyy gives the official QuantiSpeed rating as well as the FSB at which the benchmark was run, the number in parentheses gives the actual clockspeed (in MHz). Scores are highly dependent on I/O latencies. Increasing the amount of system memory from 256 MB (2000-133*) to 512 MB (2000-133) in order to lower swapfile accesses gives a very healthy boost by itself. Swapping the XP2100+ for the 2000+ does not really do anything for the scores since the I/O latencies are the same and the higher multiplier handicap offsets the extra few MHz core speed. Needless to say that overclocking the FSB yields much better results and here is where the XP 2100 really shines in that it reaches much higher clock and FSB speeds than the 2000+. Judging from several reviews, this appears a common thread amongst the XP2100+. Since it is somewhat difficult to translate overclocked speed into QuantiSpeed ratings, we show the effective MHz in parentheses. The "+" at the top score indicates selection of the "turbo" setting in the BIOS.
