Increased Memory Density --- Performance Hit?
does system memory density matter?
(Review by MS, October 26, 2003)
Mushkin Black At:

Professional OpenGL

Professional OpenGL benchmarks like SPEC ViewPerf and Cinebench are sensitive to memory performance and should reveal differences in memory performance either way.

SPEC ViewPerf 7.0

Red bars: 2 GB/4 DIMMs total, gray bars: 1 GB/2 DIMMs total system memory.

Cinebench

Red bars: 2 GB total, gray bars: 1 GB total system memory

OpenGL Rendering

We have shown earlier that the software T&L part of the OpenGL benchmark is less sensitive to memory performance than the HW T&L part where we have seen differences of up to 10% in the scores, only depending on the memory used.

Red bars: 2 GB total, gray bars: 1 GB total system memory. In this case, the differences are less than 0.5% between 1 GB and 2 GB total system memory density.
