 DDR-II Roundup
The State of the Art
(Review by John Cook, May 19, 2005)
256 MB OCZ Low Latency DDR (I)
Starting at:

More Modules

PDP PDC2 5600XBLK

PDP has been somewhat of a newcomer on the performance memory seen as of late. While they’ve made modules, and affordable one’s at that, their memory line was what one might be considered value in nature. Value and performance are usually contradictory terms, however PDP has seen fit to try to mend these ideas into memory that is both affordable and top notch speed and overclocking capable. These modules are Tri-rated at speeds of PC4200 at Cas3 2:2:4, PC5600 at Cas 4 3:3:10 and DDR2 700 at timings of 4 3:3:12. Certainly impressive claims to say the least, and something I was very much looking forward to playing with. The look of the PDP kit was nothing less than spectacular. Red spreaders over a black PCB definitely is a fitting look to modules that promise breathtaking performance.

Mushkin PC2-4200

Mushkin has been one of my favorite memory makers since long before their Level II Black days in the Winbond BH-5 heyday. Their PC133 was used in several of my gaming computers as they consistently outperformed other modules I had available at the time. Their PC2-4200 steps away from the high latency stage and strike out towards low latency DDR2 which until recently has been a paradox term. Timings of 3 2:2:8 hold promise for the enthusiast that there is hope for DDR2 and latencies don’t have to be greater in sum than the average age of the computer gamer. The Mushkin and the PDP kits are the only modules I was able to obtain that held such tight timings. Standard Mushkin Black look is maintained with the black aluminum spreaders although a green PCB is used, where I had expected to see a black PCB.
