PCMark2004
Per Futuremark, “PCMark 2004 is an application-based benchmark and a premium tool for measuring overall PC performance. It uses portions of real applications instead of including very large applications or using specifically created code.” Therefore, the premise of this benchmark is the relative applicability to the average user is maintained over that of a larger and possibly/potentially biased benchmark. While I personally feel this benchmark favors the Pentium4 platform over AMD more so than end user applications, I do feel this is a decent test on which to provide some overall system measurement for various productive tasks. With that in mind, the benchmark numbers are somewhat startling. While the Mushkin leading the pack isn’t a revelation, the marked dropoff of the vanilla Ballistix and the surge in performance of the Ballistix Tracer is somewhat unexpected. Furthermore, the PDP takes a step back from the lead group as well, and overall no clear pattern is noticed between certain frequencies or latencies holding a particular edge.
