Sisoft Sandra Drive Benchmark
Because of the close call between the benchmark results using either the VIA or the Promise UATA controller in both HDTach and ContentCreation Winstone2001 (which strongly depends on the IDE performance) it does appear as if there is hardly any difference between the two different UATA/100 interfaces. Objectively, this is not surprising since an ATA100 interface already stresses the limitations of the PCI bus used for a piggy back ride for either controller. It is conceivable, though that, under overclocked conditions, that is with the PCI bus running at higher frequency and, therefore, higher bandwidth, at least in synthetic drive performance benchmarks, a more efficient controller might show a slight edge.

Screenshots of SiSoft Sandra Drive Benchmark using the Promise ATA100 controller. Similar to HDTach, this benchamrk is unable to demonstrate a performance increase over the VIA IDE controller integrated in the South Bridge as shown below

At 148 MHz bus speed, the drive indices came out as 24505 (Promise) and 24474 (VIA), showing a slight edge for the Promise controler, which, however, is within the margin of error.
Sysmark2000
In contrast to the above benchmarks, IDE performance has only a negligible impact on Sysmark2000. Therefore, it is not surprising that the numbers came out identical (notwithstanding that the same happened in CCWS2001).
