| ASUS P5W64 Wall Street Qartet Professional We Avoid Temptation | |
|
(Review by MS, November 16, 2006) |
The general configuration was as follows:
The Quadro Conundrum
We tested the P5w64 WS in a number of configurations, specifically with respect to graphics cards. Cards tested included a pair of ASUS Extreme n7800GT, one nVidia Quadro FX1400, one Sapphire RADEON X800 GTO, two Sapphire RADEON X850 XT in CrossFire configuration. As mentioned before, there are a few issues concerniung compatibility in multi GPU configurations. One example was the nVidia Quadro FX1400 card. As the only card in the system, it would run flawlessly, however, as soon as the n7800 GTs (single or two) were present, the bottom dropped out of the performance. This happened regardless of the slot the card was installed in and regardless of whether the card was designated as primary display or not.

3dsmax 3.0 average frame rates taken from the SPEC ViewPERF 8.1 benchmark. The columns are the frame rates at the individual scenes as measured using FRAPS. Dark blue: Quadro FX1400 in sigle card configuration; mid-blue: ASUS n7800 GT (single card or as companion to the Quadro Card); light blue: Quadro FX1400 as companion card to an n7800GT (no other applications running)
Bottom line is that the Quadro does not like to be associated with a mere GeForce graphics adapter. Coincidentally, the Quadro "solo" numbers shown were obtained during a run using the card in the third slot (x4) but it really did not matter which slot the card was in.
