| Intel i875 - Canterwood SATA and GbE for PAT | ||
| (Review by MS, April 14, 2003) |

Interestingly, the Barracuda SATA-V gets the highest Burst Read Score which is equivalent to approximately 170 MB/sec total throughput if the command overhead is added. This is way beyond the capabilities of any 32 bit 33MHz PCI interface. Note that the smaller stripe size gives better performance.

In sequential reads, the only thing that matters is the area density and the spindle RPM. The Barracuda V lags behind the Cuda 7 here but the overall performance of over 100 MB/sec for an ATA RAID formation is pretty exciting.

It is not just reads, writes are equally fast.

Given that sequential reads and writes should be in the same ballpark at least, these numbers fall right into place. Random access and R/W performance is too much depending on the drive setup to mean anything in this context.
