One of the most controversial benchmarks around is 3DMark2003. There are a certain number of reservations about this benchmark that have been laid out in detail all over the web, therefore, there is no need to go into detail here. It is still somewhat surprising to see the overall scores being used as system performance indicator, we can hardly fathom a benchmark less suitable for the evaluation of system components other than the graphics card.
3DMark2003

Doubling the clock speed only gives roughly 8% performance increase in 3DMark2003. Needless to say that within the online result browser on a per clock basis, this score would be very competitive.
Let's take a few moments and look at the different sub categories.
Wings Of Fury

Battle Of Proxycon

Troll's Lair

Mother Nature

CPU Test Overall

CPU Test 1

CPU Test 2

Except for Wings Of Fury, there is hardly any difference at all between the two different clock speed settings. Only the "dedicated" CPU tests show what is going on and even there, we are a far cry from a 50% performance hit.
