Id's DOOM3
Long awaited and overloaded with eyecandy - which unfortunately is obscured by darkness in most scenes- DOOM3 has set new standards for the requirements of graphics processors. Initially we were a bit cautious about the GF6600 and its SLI configuration since running the Ultra Quality level requires one full gigabyte of system memory for all the textures. One would expect similar for the local frame buffer, however .... well, we will get to that part on the next page. For now we'll stick with the High Quality level. We used the built-in Demo1

Using AFR, DOOM3 at High Quality Settings is a homerun for the SLI configuration.
The results at one glance in the standard color scheme: Red: 6600 GT SLI; Turquoise: Sapphire RADEON X800 XT; Yellow: GeForce 6800GT; Blue: GeForce 6600GT Single. Note that the RADEON falls behind the GF 6800 GT.
Of course, now the question is once again whether AA or Ultra Quality will result in catastrophic out of video memory errors or a performance collapse -- stay with us just a bit longer...
