Test Setup
We used our standard test bed, that is, the ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe, flashed to the latest BIOS (015) version and AMD's Athlon64 X2-4800 paired with 2 GB of OCZ EL PC-3200 DDR. As main competitor we are using the Sapphire RADEON X800 GTO2 in its native and souped-up form.. In detail, the test setup was as follows:
Tested gaming applications were:
Installation / Utilities
Installation of the Extreme7800 GT could not be easier, the only things required are the physical insertion of the cards into the respective slots and running of the driver CD. The Install Shield prompts the selection of the individual utlities (or else the complete installation) and the installation of the drivers. Keep in mind that it is necessary to install the "ASUS Enhanced Drivers" in order to run the utilities. This is where the new driver package differs from some of the solutions in the past where it required physical substitution of individual DLLs whenever nVidia released a new driver but the ASUS functionality was still tobe preserved. In the new versions, the "nVidia" part and the "ASUS" part are separate entities, in which the "ASUS" part is a feature enhancement of the original nVidia drivers - regardless of what version is being installed.
