 ATI RADEON 9800
Power to the F-Buffer (what else is new?)
(Review by MS, July 18, 2003)

ATI RADEON 9800

RADEON 9800 technology is available in three product configurations built by ATI: RADEON 9800 128MB, RADEON 9800 PRO 128MB and RADEON 9800 PRO 256MB. What we are looking at today is the RADEON 9800 128 MB Pro, featuring 128 MB of Samsung K4D26323RA-GC2A where the 2A at the end specifies the rated speed of 2.86ns cycle time or 350 MHz clock rate.

Left to right: The cooler appears smaller than the one on the older RADEON 9700, the fan used has 13 blades as opposed to the 7 on the 9700 Pro and a small heatsink for the voltage regulators is on the front now. Like with the older versions, the output features standard VGA, s-video and DFP connectors. Up-close and personal with the BGA memory chip. The small "floppy" extra power connector has been replaced by the bulkier Molex-style connector. Click for larger images.

FEATURES

  • Cinematic Rendering
    • Up to 256MB of DDR memory provides increased performance when rendering high resolution textures, characters, and environments

Specifications

  • System Requirements
    • RADEON 9800 Series of products requires connection to your PC's internal power supply for operation. Consult your system builder or OEM to ensure your system has an adequate power supply. Otherwise, ATI recommends a 300-Watt power supply or greater to ensure normal system operation where a number of other internal devices are installed.
    • Intel® Pentium® 4/III, Celeron II, AMD® K7/Athlon®/ Athlon® XP with AGP 8X (0.8v), 4X (1.5V) or Universal AGP 3.0 bus configuration (8X/4X).
