Sapphire Ultimate RADEON 9600XT Edition and ASUS RADEON 9600XT
ASUS in Wonder? .... A Flawless Sapphire
(Review by MS, February 18, 2004)
ASUS RADEON
9600XT At:

Aquamark3

Aquamark GFX scores (red) and actual FPS (gray) with the fps scores scaled down by a factor of 10. At 30 frames per second average, the 9600XT is still in a very playable range.

Comanche4

Yellow: GFFX5900; Turquoise: 9800XT; Pink: 9800Pro; Blue: 9600XT

Without Antialiasing or Anisotropic Filtering, Comanche4 is too CPU and memory limited to show more than a marginal difference up to 1280 x 1024. At 1600 x 1200 resolution, the 9600XT drops off a bit.

AntiAliasing and Anisotropic Filtering

Yellow: GFFX5900; Turquoise: 9800XT; Pink: 9800Pro; Blue: 9600XT

We used 4 x AA and 8 x AF, both of which primarily stress the memory bus here the lower bandwidth of the 9600XT clearly shows in comparison to the high-end cards. Keep in mind that running at higher resolution is not necessarily a substitute for AA, even though the edges are smoother, the crawling effects are not eliminated by higher resolution while the textures are crisper. In other words, it is a matter of preference.
