| FIC RADEON 8500 The Little Card that Could | |
| (Review by MS, January 4, 2002) |
The official SPEC.org OpenGL benchmark shows, once again, a mixed bag with either card leading in some of the disciplines. While the RADEON 8500 does not outperform the GeForce3, at least, it runs ViewPERF correctly which has been a major flaw with the original Radeon.

On the left are the results for the MS822 Geforce, in the middle the ASUS Ti500 and on the right the same numbers for the FIC RADEON 8500. The surprise here are the scores in ProCDRS where the RADEON takes a more than 3-fold lead over the standard GF3 and is still almost than 3 times as fast as the Ti500. Most other categories are won by the Ti500, however the ProCDRS score shows that there is some potential that could possibly be unlocked with some more work on the drivers

The animated sequence would run but in parts only show the background with a few projection lines indicating where the animated objects were supposed to be. The D3D benchmark was running flawlessly except when SMOOTHVISION was enabled which had a tendency to gobble up some objects in the foreground. On the other hand, the AA effect of SMOOTHVISION is the best I have ever seen, that is, as long as the benchmark is running, quite amazing, indeed.
