 FIC RADEON 8500
The Little Card that Could
(Review by MS, January 4, 2002)
Quake3 Arena

Quake3 Arena is effectively a wash between the RADEON 8500 and the Ti500 with the original GeForce3 trailing behind and more so as the resolution increases.

Whoever wants to base his or her decision on the performance in Quake3 Arena is going to have a hard time deciding between the Ti500 and the RADEON 8500

Return To Castle Wolfenstein

The latest spawn from idsoftware is not as non-committal as Quake3 Arena. We used Anand's atdemo8.

16 bit Color

Playing this kind of game in 16 bit color is somewhat obsolete but the benchmark results show the RADEON 8500 pull ahead as the resolution increases. (1: 1600 x 1200; 2: 1280 x 1024; 3: 1024 x 768; 4: 800 x 600)

32 bit Color

In 32 bit color mode and high resolution, the RADEON clearly beats the Ti500 and the original GeForce3. The latter takes a surprising lead at the low resolution. (1: 1600 x 1200; 2: 1280 x 1024; 3: 1024 x 768; 4: 800 x 600)
