SPECapc 3ds max 4.26
The official benchmark for 3ds max by SPEC.org is a bit dated and generates somewhat confusing results.

Purple: FX3000 Quality setting; Blue FX3000 Speed setting. Gray: Quadro4 980XGL "Speed", Red: ATi FireGL X1. Some of the scores don't really make that much sense, e.g. the doubling of the CPU score when switching to the "Quality" setting. In other words, it is recommended to ignore the CPU score and, by extension, the Total score as well since it is the arithmetic means of CPU and GFX score.
SPEC ViewPerf 7.0
A newer version of ViewPerf has become available but the differences are only marginal. Therefore, and in order to be able to compare apples and apples with the "older" benchmarks in the data base (using otherwise the same identical setup) we stick with the 7.0 version until there is a real need to upgrade.

If the FireGL X1 (red) was fast, the FX3000 (blue) adds a new meaning to the word performance. In fact, both the FireGL X1 and the Quadro FX3000 are the first graphics adapters that would be considered to generate frame rates in the "playable" range rather than resembling a slide show. (quadro 4 980 XGL: green; Wildcat VP990: yellow)
