King of the Hill
(Review by MS, October 26, 2003)
PNY QuadroFX 3000 at:

SPECapc Maya 5.0

Brand new (in terms of Industry norm Benchmarks), SPECapc for Maya5 consists of four different benchmark themes (Werewolf, Hand, Insects and Squid) and their variations plus a CPU benchmark using hand deformation. Each benchmark is repeated 3 times and the average runtime is calculated for each category. All results are then compiled to a final score. Since Alias|Wavefront has qualified the 45.23 drivers, we show those results in comparison to the 43.09 drivers as well:

Runtime in seconds, shorter is better: The Werewolf category shows the nVidia cards performing almost identically, the FireGL X1 slightly trails here but overall, it appears as if it is more a driver or software issue than a hardware related difference. FX3000-45.23: purple; FX3000-43.09: blue; 980XGL 43.09 grey; FireGL X1: red.

Runtime in seconds, shorter is better: The Hand modeling shows a somewhat different picture, the FX3000 is the clear winner here. Note that the I/O related benchmarks "Project" and "Texture" that are measuring the load times show very little differences across the board. FX3000-45.23: purple; FX3000-43.09: blue; 980XGL 43.09 grey; FireGL X1: red.
