Anyone who has ever run AWadvs-03 crawling at some 28 fps in the days of the GeForce 256 or else AWadvs-04 at 75 fps with the GeForce3 will appreciate the 469 fps average we were getting out of the Granite Bay and the 440 fps the nForce2 still managed to spew at us. The screenshot is an understatement at best.

Raw Performance

We used two different systems to look at the performance of the Quadro4 9800 XGL, the ASUS P4G8X Granite Bay mainboard with a P4 3.06 GHz and an ASUS A7N8X nForce2 mainboard with an AMD Athlon XP2800+ (166/333MHz) or else an unlocked Athlon XP2400+ running at 11x 200/400 MHz. The system memory was run in sync (100% mode) and 2:2:2 latency settings to make sure that the memory was not the bottleneck in our equation.

In most cases, the P4G8X proved the more powerful solution, however, with the exception of DRV-08 failed to show clear differences between AGP4X and AGP8X settings uas long as we were sticking with the AGP 3.0 protocol. Therefore, we are showing the results obtained with the P4G8X only to give an idea of the capabilities of the Quadro 4 980 GXL and bragging rights for blowing away nVidia's own high-scores (admittedly, they have to run them under controlled conditions, though). For the actual AGP analysis we used the A7N8X because switching between the different AGP modes gave us reasonable and, more importantly, fully reproducible results.
