 nVidia Quadro FX4500
Pushing the Professional Envelope with SLI
(Review by MS, February 1, 2006)
nVidia Quadro FX4500 SLI

Autodesk 3dsmax 8

3dsmax does not need any introduction. We were using the 8.0 trial version to run the benchmark suite supplied originally with the 3dsmax 5.0 release. Admittedly, the benchmarks are somewhat outdated - this is also recognized by the new 3dsmax versions and causes an "obsolete data format found, please resave file" error message - but overall, they still serve their purpose of showing off at least some of the capabilities of the FX4500's. The comparison systems are using the nVidia Quadro4 980, the nVidia Quadro FX3000, ATI's FireGL X1 and 3DLabs Wildcat VP900. The various usd for the comparison configurations are quite outdated but it is not the purpose of this review to make anybody look bad, rather to show the progress made in the last 2 years in professional graphics - including the supporting infrastructure.

Frames per second, higher is better: It appears as if this benchmark is predominantly limited by the CPU Power, nonetheless there is a significant increase over the older cards

Frames per second, higher is better: Even though several other factors may contribute to the performance, this graph should make the users of older systems at least think twice about whether there might be a system update in place.
